Ask yourself what is needed to change in your life so that you can focus on doing the things you’re best at. And I shared one of the changes I made this year so I can have the maximum freedom to do the things I’m best at.
But that got me thinking about another obstacle you might be facing.
Maybe you’re in a position where you can’t simply step aside from whatever it is you’re doing. Maybe you don’t feel like you have the option to make that big of a change. Maybe you feel like you have to cling whatever your status quo is. What do you do then?
That’s a problem that requires more clarity. So let’s take a step back before moving forward.
Remember the first question I posed to you when we started this conversation?
“Are You Willing To Risk Everything You Have
To Get Everything That You Want?”
That’s an intimidating question. One that’s easier said than done.
I’ve done it multiple times. Had I not done it in my trading, had I not done it in other areas of my life, I wouldn’t have the options I have today. It’s given me the luxury of being able to make these kinds of decisions.
But in order to confront that question, and take action on it, you have to have a crystal clear understanding of what it is you want.
Taking risks without a clear answer to that question can actually move you down the wrong path! You have to know if the risk you’re willing to take, will take you to the payoff you’re after.
Let me show you how to determine that. It’s not terribly sexy, but it is the surest way I know to find and stay on the right path.
First you have to define a clear, specific understanding of what it is you want…
Then you must determine whether or not you’re on the path that will give it to you…
What do I mean?
Well to me, the first point is essentially asking if you feel you really are living your life to the fullest. If you are, then you really don’t have a problem.
But if you don’t feel like you’re getting the most out of life, if you’re not fulfilled, if you don’t feel like you have as many options as you’d like, then you have to ask the second question. And that basically says you need to check the path you’re on. Is what you’re spending your life doing, giving you the options you want? Is it taking you where you want to go? And if it’s not, what will?
Stepping off any path of security means you are going down a path where there’s tremendous uncertainty. But if you’re clear about what you want, if you’re resourceful and move forward with a level of competence, then you will eventually get where you want to be.
So how can you tell if you’re on the right path?
In short, you have to give it your all at what you do everyday. Going through the motions won’t get it done.
Because only by giving it your all today – whether you’re on the right path or not – you can really evaluate tomorrow whether what you’re doing is taking you in the right direction.
Answering these questions isn’t a magic pill. Knowing their answers doesn’t negate the fact that you might have to work hard doing some things you don’t necessarily want to do.
But understanding them will at least ensure that the work you’re doing is taking you in the right direction. Even if it sometimes doesn’t feel like it.
And that’s the key.
